INGEMMET WILL PROMOTE GEOSCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WITH STRATEGIC ALLIANCES TOWARDS ECONOMIC REACTIVATION

The management agenda of MSc Susana Vilca Achata, Executive President of INGEMMET, will be based on coordination and strategic alliances with specialized public institutions in Peru and the world. This is why, she has been leading meetings presenting initiatives for the development of geoscientific research which is essential for the mining and energy sector and the economic reactivation of Peru.

This was announced by the head of the entity to Augusto Cauti Barrantes, the Deputy Minister of Mines. During his visit to INGEMMET, he also took the occasion to congratulate Eng. Cesar Chacaltana for the recognition of the international scientific community because of the presentation of the new dolphin fossil species Samaydelphis chacaltanae, that was announced days ago.

In this way, Cauti Barrantes, highlighted the importance of paleontology and lauded that the scientific institution to retake the policy of the enhancement of fossil and rock samples and geoscientific research.

Furthermore, MSc. Susana Vilca stated her management plans aim to promote geoscientific research through strategic alliances and to strengthen research in paleontology. This is with the purpose to give greater support to the national geological chart and to the historical reconstruction of geological processes by generating quality information to the population and investors.

Likewise, the Eng. Chacaltana indicated that fossils include the stages of mineralization and generation of energy sources, mainly hydrocarbons. He said:” The fossils highlight the geological events in our territory. They all are references to understand the geological contexts and also to correlate the geological and mineral potential of the areas of interest of researchers and investors in the energy mining sector,".

The authorities of INGEMMET and the deputy minister made a guided tour to see the collection of fossil samples in the premises of the institution.

At the end of the day, the deputy minister also congratulated MSc. Susana Vilca Achata for the publication of the new fossil species Cornulites vilcae. It was published in 2016, in the prestigious Bulletin of Geosciences magazine of the Geological Survey of the Republic of Czechoslovakia.
