INGEMMET WILL CARRY OUT CYCLE OF CONFERENCES ON VOLCANOES AND THEIR IMPACT IN SOCIETY

Peru noticias

The Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (INGEMMET) invites you to attend the online cycle of conferences “Volcanoes and Community: impacts of volcanic eruptions in modern society”. This event is held with the purpose of analyzing and exchanging experiences around the volcanic eruptions that affected society in recent years. Likewise, it will take place from August 26 to 28, in regards to the 41st anniversary of the governing institute of geoscience in Peru.

This international event is jointly held with the Latinamerican Association of Volcanology (ALVO) in order to strengthen cooperation bonds between volcano observatories and research institutions for disaster risk management. Thus, the content will be developed from the presentation of experiences in emergency care, education and spreading of information during volcanic activity processes.

Furthermore, the cycle of conferences is divided into three sessions: 1) attention to volcanic emergencies in times of pandemic, 2) communication and education on volcanic risk, and 3) study and monitoring of erupting volcanoes.

The conference is aimed at researchers, professionals from volcano observatories, local and regional authorities, civil defense officials, professionals related to disaster risk management, Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers (VAACs) meteorological surveys, airport operators, hydroelectric plants, mining operations, geothermal projects and general public.

Moreover, the information from this event can be useful for teachers and university students of professional careers related to geology, prevention of natural disasters and others. You can access social networks of INGEMMET and ALVO on August 26, 27 and 28, from 09:00 a.m. m. at 12:00 m.

The purpose is to bring together professionals from Peru and other parts of the world, who work in scientific research, risk management of volcanic origin and its repercussions on the development of communities. This event is also a space for spreading the results and experiences in responding to emergencies produced by volcanic eruptions that occurred in recent years.

The Volcano Observatory of Peru

The Volcano Observatory of INGEMMET (OVI) officially began its activities on March 23, 2013. It is an interdisciplinary research and monitoring center of active volcanoes. This way, it aims to study, and determine the nature and probability of occurrence of a volcanic eruption through geological knowledge and seismic, geochemical, geodetic and visual monitoring.
